Lodge History: |
In the final quarter of the nineteenth
century the two established Chester Lodges, Cestrian
No.425 and the Lodge of Independence No.721, had both grown to a considerable
size, aided in no small way by the influx of military brethren
from the large depot and headquarters established in the City.
It was against this background that W.Bro. Isaac Mathews-Jones,
Past Master of ‘721’ spoke
to his Lodge on 12th October 1890 about the desirability of creating
a new Lodge in Chester.
A meeting was held at the Royal Standard
Hotel on the 18th October 1890 to discuss
the formation of a new Masonic Lodge. This new Lodge would on the
suggestion of Sir Horatio Lloyd D.P.G.M. be called ‘Clarence’ named
after the Grand Master’s eldest son, the Duke of Clarence.
The Lodge was consecrated on Monday 19th January 1891 By Lord Egerton
of Tatton, R.W. Provincial Grand Master. |
